DOKER SHOWS THE BEST FILMS OF 2015

The second stage of the Moscow International Documentary Film Festival 2015

From October 30 to November 1 the Moscow Cinema "Illuzion” will host the second stage of the Moscow International Documentary Film Festival DOKer 2015. In the three days of the festival the ten best documentary films of the festival will be screened. These cinematic works were chosen in the first stage of the Festival in spring 2015. Following this, during the second stage of DOKer the award ceremony for the prize winners will also be held.

The first stage of the DOKеr Festival took place on the 22-26 May in the Cinema “DomZhur”. 45 films from 32 countries were shown (out of a selection of 1 300 entries from 97 countries) in the three programmes of the Festival (feature-length, short and the special "Cinema in Cinema" section).

The 9 award-winning films were decided by the members of the jury which consisted of the well-known Russian documentary film-maker Victor Kossakovsky, the Danish film scholar, founder of the EDN (The European Documentary Network) Tue Steen Muller, the Polish cinematographer Mateusz Skalski and the Greek film critic Vassilis Economou. There was also one film which received the viewers' award. In the Short Competition Jury members included The Slovak documentary film-maker Peter Kerekes, the Russian director, scriptwriter and producer Aleksei Vakhrushev, the film scholar and film historian from the USA Anna Nieman and the Portuguese producer Pedro Fernandes Duarte.

The success of the first DOKеr festival inspired its producers to organize the second stage. From October 30th to November 1st the 10 best films and award winners in all the categories will be shown. Directors, script-writers and some of the film characters from France, Venezuela, Poland, China, Denmark, Spain and Peru will make special appearances, giving journalists and spectators a fine opportunity to ask questions and to communicate in person with the authors who represent the modern face of global documentary film.

The DOKer Festival has been self-financing from the start and in the summer of 2015 a crowd-funding campaign was carried out to hold the second stage of this Festival. This campaign of funding via the general public met with outstanding success.
