JURY 2022

COLOMBIA

  CAMILA RODRÍGUEZ TRIANA

Filmmaker & visual artist from Cali, Columbia. Lives and works between Saint Malo (France) and Cali (Colombia). Graduated from Universidad del Valle, CO — Social Communication (2002-2008); Studio National des Arts Contemporains, Tourcoing, FR — Master, Cinema and Contemporary Art, Le Fresnoy (2017 — 2019). She is part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Initiative program as Protégé in Visual Arts.

Rodríguez Triana’s work reflects on identity. She is interested in the inherited ancestral culture and the way in which we re-appropriate that culture to make it our own. She is interested in the words «re-appropriation» and «re-elaboration» that imply recognizing something past and appropriating it to transform it. Rodríguez Triana wonders about the position of the «mestizos» regarding ancestral heritage.

In her work, Rodríguez Triana re-appropriates the thread, a material linked to ancestral cultures, delicate and capable of building strong unions, capable of repairing. Camila Rodríguez Triana uses the thread in intuitive ways guided by what (thought, feeling, memory) she is working on in each work.

Camila Rodríguez Triana has many nominations and art awards such as Best installation. Des amis du Fresnoy, Panorama 21, France (2019), Rolex Mentor and Protégé Fellowship in Visual Arts (2020), Emerging Artist Award, Rencontres Artistiques — Carré sur Seine, France (2021) and others.

Author of films: Anahí (2012), Dawn of a memory (2013), La muerte de las luciérnagas (2015), Sincerely (2016), Inside (2017), In Ashes (2018), Breathe (2021).

These films became participants and winners of numerous film festivals around the globe. Awards include: Special jury mention at It’s All True International Documentary FF Brazil, Grand Prix MARFICI International Documentary FF Argentina, Best Documentary Film at Lisbon IFF Portugal, Honorable Mention at IFF in Algeria, Prix Renaud Victor at FIDMarseille France, Best Ibero-American Film at Lima Independiente FF Peru, Nomination for the Doc Alliance Award and others.
