DANAE ELON
An award-winning documentary filmmaker, producer and cinematographer.
She is currently working on a feature documentary and virtual reality experience: Rule of Stone, about the architectural Master Plan of Jerusalem, which is supported by Sodec and CMF. Her most recently completed film is Life of a Dog, made in collaboration with director Rosana Matecki, and a recipient of the CBC artist relief fund. The film was selected to premiere at RIDM 2020.
Elon’s previous film, A Sister’s Song, in 2018, won several awards: the AIDC award for innovation in documentary filmmaking; Best Documentary at the Doker Moscow International Documentary Film Festival; and an IRIS Award in Quebec for best cinematography.
Her other films include Another Road Home (2004), Partly Private (2007), P.S. Jerusalem (2015) and Patriarch’s Room (2017). Her films have showcased at TIFF, Berlinale, Tribeca, IDFA, Hot Docs, Melbourne, Human Rights Watch, and many other international film festivals, as well as enjoying theatrically release in the US and in Canada. In addition her work has been broadcast on the BBC, ARTE, Sundance Channel, Vision TV, Canal D, YLE, TV 2 Denmark, KAN Israel and Al Jazeera.
Danae is the recipient of a 2009 Guggenheim fellowship, and in addition has won awards and fellowships from Tribeca Film Festival and the Sundance Institute. She is an alumna of New York University Tisch School of the Arts where she won the 1994 U.S. National Eastman Kodak Scholarship Award ‘as one of the nations’ most promising talents of the Future Generation of Filmmakers. Danae has taught film at the Sapir Academic college in Israel and is currently teaching film production and concept development at Queens University.
