Designed as a platform for the creative freedom of young artist filmmakers, Pedro F. Duarte and the producer Joana Gusmão have established the independent film production company Primeira Idade (meaning “First Age” in Portuguese), which was born of the experience gathered, in his case, by producing several features and assisting a number of acclaimed filmmakers. Being a cinephile, he also produced the film programme Harvard at the Gulbenkian with the Harvard Film Archive. Member of the board of APORDOC.

 

Producer of the films Snakeskin directed by Daniel Hui (105 mins, Singapore & Portugal, 2014), The Invisible Life directed by Vítor Gonçalves (99 mins, Portugal, 2013), This Side of Resurrection directed by Joaquim Sapinho (111 mins, Portugal, 2011). 

 

His company Primeira Idade is working on the debut fiction features of Carlos Conceição (Good Night, Cinderella – Cannes’ Semaine de la Critique 2014), Diogo Costa Amarante (The White Roses – in competition, Berlinale 2014) and Mariana Gaivão (Solo – Best Short, Festival du Nouveau Cinema 2012), and on the debut feature documentaries of Margarida Rêgo (The Revolution Hunter – Cannes’ Quinzaine des Realizateurs 2014) and Catarina Vasconcelos (Metaphor or Sadness Inside Out – Best Short, Cinema du Réel 2014).
